PNW Colors of Spring

"April showers bring May flowers" If you have ever been to Washington in the springtime you know that saying is pretty accurate except it's more like March, April & May showers bring March, April, and May flowers. When spring seems to finally hit, we have a pretty vast array of beautiful flowers in our buildup to summer. It starts with the daffodil fields that are scattered all over Mount Vernon in early March where even f the sun it out it it's still pretty chilly. With the sun finally being out it makes for great beach days on Whidbey Island and sunsets in Anacortes as well from the top of Cap Sante Park. As the Daffodils fade and the rain is pretty steady the cherry blossoms are in full bloom everywhere but a personal favorite (and favorite with most) is seeing them all at the UW campus. Funny how even in Washington rain can still keep people from being outside. I have never seen the cherry blossoms so empty on a Saturday as I did that weekend in April. We then can move along to the main event: The Tulips (and Snow Goose Produce obviously). This year they seemed to come a little later than most with all the cold and rain we were still having but it makes for a great muddy time when seeing the continuous rows of all the amazing colors. A beautiful but sometimes forgotten flower is the rhododendron which is actually the Washington State Flower. They are just stunning to photograph and bloom in a vast array of colors really making it feel like spring.
